Some things should have stayed buried
James Webb is an officer of the Intergalactic Police Force, the highest authority in a fractured galaxy. On his last mission a column of light tore through the battlefield. Inside it he saw every life as a thread, the laws of physics written in light, and every branch of reality at once.
He came home with scars, the same routine, and a left eye that glows. Objects drift when he reaches for them. He calls it the Stream, and it is in him now.
Commander Anderson knows something cut Webb's feed that day. Instead of answers, he gives Webb an order: go ten thousand feet beneath the world, and meet your new partner.
